Hello everyone! How has your last couple of weeks been? Here, in this part of Ontario,
it looks like winter is coming to an end, though I am sure itll be back quickly. It
has been milder, snow melting, sunny sometimes, etc. "He hath made every thing
beautiful in his time." Ecclesiastes 3:11
Do you have any suggestions for improving GHH? Making it more interesting? If so,
PLEASE email me.
Thank you to those of you who have helped get more action going on GHH lately
I
believe the discussion has been profitable for most of us. We learn by sharing with others
and hearing others share.
Thank you for your replies, Flaviu and Laura.
Our question was:
What do you think is the most
important work, in this life?
***************************************************************************************************************
Flavius answer is:
I really don't look upon the most important thing in this life as work. It really
should be a pleasure to us. Everything we do we must do for the glory of God, right? That
means we should rejoice in what we do. But one of the most important [lines of] so called
"work" is to prepare ourselves and the ones around us for the coming of our
Saviour Jesus.
***************************************************************************************************************
Lauras answer is:
The most important work in this life is to live and share the Truth
with others.
Editors Note:
This is kind of a hard question, because there are so many things that seems most
important. Our aim in life should be to glorify and serve God, and help our fellow men.
"Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Mark
16:15
"Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of
God." 1 Corinthians 10:31
Isaiah 58 gives us a view of our duty in this life
58:1 Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and show my people their
transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.
58:2 Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did
righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances
of justice; they take delight in approaching to God.
58:3 Wherefore have we fasted, [say they], and thou seest not? [wherefore] have we
afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find
pleasure, and exact all your labours.
58:4 Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness:
ye shall not fast as [ye do this] day, to make your voice to be heard on high.
58:5 Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? [is it]
to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes [under him]? wilt
thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?
58:6 [Is] not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to
undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
58:7 [Is it] not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are
cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide
not thyself from thine own flesh?
58:8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring
forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be
thy rereward.
58:9 Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall
say, Here I [am]. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth
of the finger, and speaking vanity;
58:10 And [if] thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul;
then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness [be] as the noon day:
58:11 And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in
drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a
spring of water, whose waters fail not.
58:12 And [they that shall be] of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt
raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of
the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.
58:13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, [from] doing thy pleasure on my holy
day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour
him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking [thine own]
words:
58:14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon
the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the
mouth of the LORD hath spoken [it].
Notice in verse 11 what the Lord will do for us when we do these things. "And
the LORD shall guide thee continually
" Oh, how we need daily guidance
from the Lord, for without it, we are not living the life of Christ.
"I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh,
when no man can work." John 9:4
"I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law [is] within my heart."
Psalm 40:8
I believe that the most important work that we can do, is to obey, love, serve, and
honor God, and then allow ourselves to be given up for the Masters service, to be
anything, or nothing, for Him. Then He will guide us
I am going to share below, a few quotes from different books below. They tell about
some very important duties in our lives. Some of these may not be applicable for you now,
but you can share them with your parents or others for whom they may be more applicable. J
"Canvassing for our publications is an important and most
profitable line of evangelistic work. Our publications can go to places where meetings
cannot be held. In such places the faithful evangelistic canvasser takes the place of the
living preacher. By the canvassing work the truth is presented to thousands who otherwise
would never hear it." Colporteur Ministry pg. 8
"There is no line of work in which it is possible for the youth to
receive greater benefit. All who engage in ministry are God's helping hand. They are
co-workers with the angels; rather, they are the human agencies through whom the angels
accomplish their mission. Angels speak through their voices, and work by their hands. And
the human workers, co-operating with heavenly agencies, have the benefit of their
education and experience. As a means of education, what "university course" can
equal this?
"With such an army of workers as our youth, rightly trained, might
furnish, how soon the message of a crucified, risen, and soon-coming Saviour might be
carried to the whole world! How soon might the end come--the end of suffering and sorrow
and sin! How soon, in place of a possession here, with its blight of sin and pain, our
children might receive their inheritance where "the righteous shall inherit the land,
and dwell therein forever;" where "the inhabitant shall not say, I am
sick," and "the voice of weeping shall be no more heard." Psalm 37:29;
Isaiah 33:24; 65:19." Education, pg. 271
"A sacred duty rests upon parents to guide their children into
paths of strict obedience. True happiness in this life and in the future life depends upon
obedience to a "Thus saith the Lord." Parents, let Christ's life be the pattern.
Satan will devise every possible means to break down this high standard of piety as one
altogether too strict. It is your work to impress upon your children in their early years
the thought that they are formed in the image of God. Christ came to this world to give
them a living example of what they all must be, and parents who claim to believe the truth
for this time are to teach their children to love God and to obey His law. This is the
greatest and most important work that fathers and mothers can do. . . . It is God's design
that even the children and youth shall understand intelligently what God requires, that
they may distinguish between righteousness and sin, between obedience and
disobedience." Child Guidance, pg. 80
"Teachers should not feel that their duty is done when their
pupils have been instructed in the sciences. But they should realize that they have the
most important missionary field in the world. If the capabilities of all engaged as
instructors are used as God would have them, they will be most successful missionaries. It
must be remembered that the youth are forming habits which will, in nine cases out of ten,
decide their future. The influence of the company they keep, the associations they form,
and the principles they adopt, will be carried with them through life." Christian
Education, pg. 31
"If you are truly converted, if you are children of Jesus, you
will honor your parents; you will not only do what they tell you but will watch for
opportunities to help them. In doing this you are working for Jesus. He considers all
these care-taking, thoughtful deeds as done to Himself. This is the most important kind of
missionary work; and those who are faithful in these little everyday duties are gaining a
valuable experience." Adventist Home, p. 295
"Character building is the most important work ever entrusted to
human beings, and never before was its diligent study so important as now. Never was any
previous generation called to meet issues so momentous; never before were young men and
young women confronted by perils so great as confront them today." Child Guidance,
pg. 169
"Those children who are the most indulged become willful,
passionate, and unlovely. Would that parents could realize that upon judicious, early
training depends the happiness of both the parents and the children. Who are these little
ones that are committed to our care? They are the younger members of the Lord's family.
"Take this son, this daughter," he says, "nurse them for me, and fit them
up 'that they may be polished after the similitude of a palace,' that they may shine in
the courts of the Lord." Precious work! Important work! Yet we see mothers sighing
for a wider field of labor, for some missionary work to do. If they could only go to
Africa or India, they would feel that they were doing something. But to take up the little
daily duties of life, and to carry them forward faithfully, perseveringly, seems to them
an unimportant thing. Why is this? Is it not often because the mother's work is so rarely
appreciated? She has a thousand cares and burdens of which the father seldom has any
knowledge. Too often he returns home bringing with him his cares and business perplexities
to overshadow the family, and if he does not find everything just to his mind at home, he
gives expression to his feelings in impatience and fault-finding. He can boast of what he
has achieved through the day, but the mother's work, to his mind, amounts to little, or is
at least undervalued. To him her cares appear trifling. She has only to cook the meals,
look after the children, sometimes a large family of them, and keep the house in order.
She has tried all day to keep the domestic machinery running smoothly. She has tried,
though tired and perplexed, to speak kindly and cheerfully, and to instruct the children
and keep them in the right path. All this has cost effort, and much patience on her part.
She cannot, in her turn, boast of what she has done. It seems to her as though she has
accomplished nothing. But it is not so. Though the results of her work are not apparent,
angels of God are watching the careworn mother, noting the burdens she carries from day to
day. Her name may never appear upon the records of history, or receive the honor and
applause of the world, as may that of the husband and father; but it is immortalized in
the book of God. She is doing what she can, and her position in God's sight is more
exalted than that of a king upon his throne; for she is dealing with character, she is
fashioning minds." Christian Education, pg. 171
"If there is one work more important than another, it is that of
getting our publications before the public, thus leading them to search the Scriptures.
Missionary work--introducing our publications into families, conversing, and praying with
and for them--is a good work and one which will educate men and women to do pastoral
labor." Colporteur Ministry, pg. 7
May God bless and guide you as you seek to know what the Lord wants you to do, which
work is the most important for you!
