"> Gods Helping Hand
#12
Hello friends! I hope you have had a good couple of weeks, or however long it has been
since the last issue of Gods Helping Hand. We have been busy building cedar rail
fences, doing firewood, and homeschool. We have had some snow but it didnt stick
around. I am hoping it does soon. J
Thank you very much for your replies, Laura, J.C., Rebekah, Flaviu,
Amanda, Alicia, and Joel H.
Our question was:
Do you think we, as Christians should participate in Halloween? Why or
why not?
Lauras answer is:
Should we as Christians be involved in Halloween? I feel that no we shouldn't. It is a
Satanic holiday (All Saints Day) and there is nothing that is Christ-focused about the
day.

J.C.s answer is:
Hi! My answer to the question of whether we as Christians should participate in
Halloween is NO WAY. Even though it seems harmless enough, and kids look cute in their
costumes, behind it are many things wrong with it. First of all, the date of October 31.
If I am not mistaken that is the day that in the past people used to celebrate the day of
the dead. Unfortunately I don't have the historical background with me right now, but just
looking it up you will see how that day is tied to pagan beliefs. Second, when we
participate we are directly and indirectly stating and making others believe that the dead
do exist, and that there is such a thing as life after death in the form of ghosts,
goblins, monsters, and other spirits, which is contrary to what the Bible teaches about
the dead in Ecclessiastes 9:5-6, 12:7, Psalms 146:4, John 11:11-13, which are just a few
of the many verses that discuss what really happens to the dead. If we go contrary to the
Bible we are saying that God is a liar on this subject and in all the subjects. These are
just a few of the reasons why we as Christians should not participate in Halloween.

Rebekahs answer is:
I think that it is not the best idea to celebrate Halloween. Kids dressing up and going
trick or treating may be cute and all but the day is more than that. Halloween is a day
that glorifies witches, ghosts, and even Satan!!!!

Flavius answer is:
Halloween is said to be one of the most evil intended holidays made by human beings. I
did a research for school a few years back and what I found on it was truly shocking and
disturbing. If you want the true meaning of Halloween you can find lots of info. on the
web about it. One good site is Halloween.com which talks about Ghosts, Vampires,
Cemeteries...etc. which of course shows you how good the holiday is, or, I should say ....
how horrible it is.

Amandas answer is:
I totally don't think so. At one time I would have said exactly the opposite. I thought
it was just a great holiday to dress up and get candy. But this year I went to my friends'
house to watch scary movies. We started watching the movie Scream and I felt Satan right
there, in that room! You can't imagine how terrified I was! I DON'T think that Christians
should support anything that puts the Devil on a pedestal. Being in his grip is so NOT
cool!
***************************************************************************************************************
Alicias answer is:
Many people don't know what Halloween is all about. It is worshiping
the Devil and dead people. Animists do the same thing. But we are Christians we should
know better. When people die they are dead. Not a spirit floating around somewhere. Why
worship something that doesn't even exist? Now it is very wrong to worship the devil. When
you do that you are giving yourself into his hands. I hope I'm not talking too strongly.
Don't get upset if you don't think that way. God bless. In Christian love, your Sis. in
Christ, Alicia

Joel H.s answer is:
I think that we as Christians should not go out for Halloween partly because I have
been raised as long as I can remember not going out for Halloween and also because in 1
Corinthians 10:31 it says "so whether you eat or drink or whatever
you do, do it all for the glory of God." And I really don't
see any glory given to God in a festival that emphasizes the occult.
Editors Note:
Thank you for your answers everyone. I also believe that Halloween is a holiday that we
should not participate in. Just the idea of dressing up in scary looking costumes
The question to ask is "What would Jesus do?"
Think of the contrast of this dark night of wickedness and the wonderful Sabbath day of
rest that has been given us to worship God and commemorate the Creation!
