God’s Helping Hand #7

Greetings everyone! We’ve had some great weather this past couple of weeks-- rain and sunshine, thank the Lord.

A correction: In the editor’s note in the last issue, I said that bees live 46 weeks. It is supposed to be 4-6 weeks. Sorry about that. That’s a big difference! J

Thank you very much for your replies Sarah, Carlotta, and Noelle, and Suzannah, Sarah H., and Sarah C. for your introductions!

Our question was:

What is your favorite quote from any book, and why is it important to you?

Sarah C.’s answer is:

My favorite quote is from Desire of Ages page 668. It goes like this, "If we consent, He [Jesus] will so identify himself with our thoughts and aims, so blend our hearts and minds into conformity to his will, that when obeying him, we shall be but carrying out our own interests." I really like that quote because it is a promise that I really want to come true in my life. It's my dream.

Carlotta’s answer is:

My favorite quote from the most important book on earth is Romans 8:31, "What shall we than say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?" Why is this those important to me? This lets me know no matter where I am what I do or where I go God is ever there for me. Never do I fear the world because Christ is my shield and my protector, and whatever comes my way I know I can handle it. Like Christ says, be not afraid for I am with you. Claim His promises. Take care.

Noelle’s answer is:

A quote that has been very special to me says, "Things will go wrong with everyone: sadness and discouragement press every soul; then a personal presence, a friend who will comfort and impart strength, will turn back the darts of the enemy that are aimed to destroy. Christian friends are not half as plentiful as they should be. In hours of temptation, in a crisis, what a value is a true friend." <Letter 7,1883, by E.G. White>" The past couple of months I was very busy at work, and many times I would get discouraged, but a Christian friend of mine always was there to encourage me, and when I read this little quote I realized that it was very true!

Editor’s Note:

Thank you for your answers! Here is one of my favorite quotes.

"The greatest want of the world is the want of men,--men who will not be bought or sold; men who in their inmost souls are true and honest; men who do not fear to call sin by its right name; men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole; men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall."--Education, p. 57

Yes, the greatest want of the world is the want of men… but I think this is a good job description for us women/girls as well, especially as young people. I find this quote really gives me a sense of direction.

And another introduction…

Hi everyone!

My name is Sarah, and I am 15 years old. I live in the country, 8 miles from the nearest town, in the state of Washington in the USA. I love it here, except the rain. We get a lot of rain here!!

Some of the things I like to do are: read and study the Bible; interact with other sincere Christian youth by email, ezboards, chat, or snail mail; go to the ocean; go for hikes; cooking and housework; caring for and just being around dogs; growing a big garden (right now it is over nine thousand square feet) and a lot more!

Most of all, I really love the Lord and want to serve him with all I can give no matter what it means.

Your sister in Christ,

Sarah

A man by the name of Rick volunteers with prison ministries, and in his work has become friends with a pastor of a Store Front Church. The pastor's church is called... Almighty God Tabernacle. ThePastor told Rick this story.

On a Saturday night several weeks ago, this pastor was working late, and decided to call his wife before he left for home. It was about 10:00 PM, but his wife didn't answer the phone. The pastor let it ring many times. He thought it was odd that she didn't answer, but decided to wrap up a few things and try again in a few minutes. When he tried again she answered right away. He asked her why she hadn't answered before, she replied, that the phone hadn't rung at their house. They brushed it off as a fluke and went on their merry ways.

The following Monday, the pastor received a call at the church office, which was the same phone that he'd used that previous Saturday night. The man on the other end of the call wanted to know why he'd (the pastor) called on Saturday night. The pastor couldn't figure out what the guy was talking about. Then the guy said, "It rang and rang, but I didn't answer." The pastor then remembered the mishap and apologized for disturbing him, explaining that he'd intended to call his wife. The man said, "Oh! I understand what you are saying, that sort of thing happens, but yet, I need to tell you my story...

You see, I was planning to commit suicide on Saturday night, but before I did, I prayed, 'God if you're there, and you don't want me to do this, give me a sign now.' At that point my phone started to ring. I looked at the caller ID, and it said, 'Almighty God,' " and ... I was afraid to answer!
