God’s Helping Hand #5

Hello everyone! How are you all doing? Honey extraction has begun, so we are getting sticky again! Hopefully we sweeten up a bit, too. It’s really exciting, I have my own bees now, though they haven’t produced enough honey for me to extract any yet. Hope you all are enjoying the summer. The weather has been great!

Thank you very much for your replies, Jonathon and Janalin, and Anna for your introduction!

Our question was:

Do you believe in the Bible? If so, why?

Jonathon’s answer, and introduction is:

My name is Jonathon Sims, I am 15 years old, and I live in North Central Washington, USA. To answer your question, Do I believe in the Bible and Why. Most certainly I believe in the Bible, Why? Because it is God's inspired word "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" 2 Timothy 3:16.

Janalin’s answer is:

Yes I definitely believe in the Bible! Here’s why; I believe the Bible because after man has tried to silence it, it still speaks. I believe in it because history has proven that whenever a society throws the Bible out, that society collapses in someway or another. Take French Revolution for example. I believe the Bible because of the way prophecy has been and is being fulfilled. I believe the Bible because even though it was written by about forty different authors over a 1,500 year period of time, it all agrees. The list goes on and on. Some people might not believe in the Bible but I do!

Editor’s Note:

I really appreciate your answers. I certainly believe in the Bible as well. It is the food that keeps us spiritually alive. I agree with Janalin. When the Bible was taken from the people, the world did not improve! Nothing good is possible without God. It is inspired by the Holy Spirit, and men wrote it down. It is our rule of life. All prophesy in the Bible has been accurate. In Jeremiah 25:11, 12 it says, "And this whole land shall be a desolation, [and] an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years. And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, [that] I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations." The Israelites were in captivity for exactly 70 years! It was prophesied that Jesus, the Messiah, was to be born in Bethlehem, and God worked it out that He was, even though His parents lived in Nazareth! The Bible also contains scientific facts that scientists didn’t prove till 100’s of years later. (Job 26:7, Isaiah 40:22). Until this century, experts said Nineveh (remember the story of Jonah and the big fish?) didn’t exist. Now archeologists have proved it did. There are many more wonders. Praise God for His sure Word!

Hi everyone, I recently set up an eGroup list to help encourage us in our faith, and you're all invited to join, if you like the idea! The group is called Scripture Share. Here's the idea: any time a Scripture passage you're reading JUMPS out at you and SPEAKS, and you want to share it, type the verse out, and explain what it said to you, and send it to the list! To join the list, simply send a blank email to scriptureshare-subscribe@yahoogroups.com from the address you want to receive emails at, or go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/scriptureshare and subscribe there.

I'm looking forward to sharing with you, and benefiting from what you all have to share! -Joel

Thank you for the invitation, Joel. Let me encourage all of you to join. It is good when we can all share the lessons that the Lord is teaching us!

Did any of you only get part of the story I sent out this week? If so, please let me know.

Some of you asked if the story about Brenda and the contact lense was true, or where I got it from. I gave a link to those of you who asked, but this one below is closer. It’s part of the same web site but I think I got it at this exact place. Sorry the other was a little off. I found out that that story is true. God bless! http://mrmom.amaonline.com/stories/storyroom.htm

THE GEESE AND THE SNOWSTORM

There was once a man who did not believe in either the virgin birth of
Christ or the spiritual meaning behind it, and was skeptical even about
God. He and his family lived in a farm community. His wife was a devout
believer and diligently raised her children in the faith. He sometimes
gave her a hard time about her belief and mocked her religious
observances.

"It's all nonsense -- why would God lower himself and become a human like
us? It's such a ridiculous story," he said.

One snowy day, she and the children left for church while he stayed home.
After they had departed, the winds grew stronger and the snow turned into
a blinding snowstorm. He sat down to relax before the fire for the
evening.

Then he heard a loud thump, something hitting against the window... And,
still another thump. He looked outside but could not see anything. So he
ventured outside for a better view. In the field near his house he saw,
of
all the strangest things, a flock of geese. They were apparently flying
to
look for a warmer area down south, but they had been caught in the
snowstorm. The storm had become too blinding and violent for the geese to
fly or see their way. They were stranded on his farm, with no food or
shelter, unable to do more than flutter their wings and fly in aimless
circles. He had compassion for them and wanted to help them. He thought
to
himself, the barn would be a great place for them to stay. It is warm and
safe; surely they could spend the night and wait out the storm. So he
opened the barn doors for them.

He waited, watching them, hoping they would notice the open barn and go
inside. Nevertheless, they did not notice the barn or realize what it
could mean for them. He moved closer toward them to get their attention,
but they just moved away from him out of fear.

He went into the house and came back with some bread, broke it up, and
made a bread trail to the barn. They still did not catch on.

Starting to get frustrated, he went over and tried to shoo them toward
the
barn. They panicked and scattered into every direction except toward the
barn. Nothing he did could get them to go into the barn where there was
warmth, safety, and shelter. Feeling totally frustrated, he exclaimed,
"Why don't they follow me? Can't they see this is the only place where
they can survive the storm? How can I possibly get them into the one
place
to save them?"

He thought for a moment and realized that they just would not follow a
human. He said to himself, "How can I possibly save them? The only way
would be for me to become like those geese. If only I could become like
one of them. Then I could save them. They would follow me and I would
lead
them to safety."

At that moment, he stopped and considered what he had said. The words
reverberated in his mind: If only I could become like one of them, then I
could save them. Then, at last, he understood God's heart towards
mankind... and he fell on his knees in the snow.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that
the
world through him might be saved. John 3:16,17

A group of Geography students studied the Seven Wonders of the World.

At the end of that section, the students were asked to list what they
considered to be the Seven Wonders of the World. Though there was
some disagreement, the following got the most votes:

1. Egypt's Great Pyramids
2. Taj Mahal
3. Grand Canyon
4. Panama Canal
5. Empire State Building
6. St. Peter's Basilica
7. China's Great Wall

While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one student, a
Quiet girl, hadn't turned in her paper yet. So, she asked the girl if she was having trouble with her list.

The quiet girl replied, "Yes, a little. I couldn't quite make up my
Mind because there were so many."

The teacher said, "Well, tell us what you have, and maybe we can
help."

The girl hesitated, then read, "I think the Seven Wonders of the
World are:

1. to touch
2. to taste
3. to see
4. to hear
5. to run
6. to laugh
7. and to love

How easy it is for us to look at the creations of man and refer to
them as "wonders" while we overlook how extraordinary it is to be human.

May you be reminded today that life is not measured by the number of
breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
